Our visit to Florida

We had such a great time last week in Florida. Vern, Emily, Andrew, Bryson and I took off Monday March 29th to Florida to use the vacation package I had purchased 2 years ago. We had a grand old time! We stayed the first three days in a hotel right on Daytona beach. The weather was perfect so we spent a favorible amount of time basking in the sun. The favorite event on the beach was football. We tried frisbee, but it was too windy. The ocean was a little chilly because they said that it was the coldest winter they had had for 3 years. Hense we did most of our swimming in the pool because it was warmed to somewhere in the 80's. We truely had some great bonding moments. The kids were on their best behavior the first few days because we started a point system for good behavior. Each time they said "please" or "thank you" or did a good deed, they got a point. I was in seventh heaven watching these kids vie for points. Even the girl at the car rental was impressed as she saw Bryson jump out of the car and say, "Let me get that for you, Mother!" Then he proceded to open my door like a gentleman. She looked at Vern and I and said, "Well, he sure has good manners!" We just smiled and acted like it happens every day. The other kids were doing some amazing things also. We totally enjoyed it while it lasted. Wednesday, we went to Holliwood Studios. That was a fabulous place (changed from M.G.M.) with many exciting and educational shows. We learned a lot about making movies, and we got fast passes for all of the rides. I applaud disney for fast passes because there were 42,000 people there that day. It sure made it bearable. A highlight for me was going to a venue where we found out about the life of Walt disney. What an amazing man! It was facinating to find that he started out by desiring to be a cartoon artist. His first cartoon was the creation of Mickey and Minnie mouse. Wow! What one man can do to change and influence the world! Wednesday night Rachelle flew in to join us. We spent another sunny day on the beach with her. The funnest memories I thought were in the swimming pool where we played, exercised and had wars in two's on top of each other. Friday the kids were able to go to Islands of Adventures and ride the fast rides all day. They were crazy about that. We met them for dinner at an M.B.A. resturant where Bryson and Andrew both got to shoot hoops for a prize in the front of the resturant. They didn't win anything but had a blast trying. Friday night Morgan and Kim came. What an exciting moment that was! Saturday we spent the day at Animal Kingdom together where the little girls and Max were in seventh heaven seeing all those animals. Our favorite ride was the African Safari ride. We got to go in a jeep on a real live safari and see hundreds of animals in their real habitat. Emily, Bry, and the others loved holding and pushing their nieces and newphew around and watching the excitement on their little bright eyed faces most of all. We got back to the condo by 9:00 where we colored easter eggs for the following day. The easter bunny found all the kids, even in Florida. The kids were surprised at how smart the Easter bunny was because some of the big boys still had a hard time finding their basket, (even in a small condo.) We scurried off that morning (after our easter festivities) to drive two hours south, to Port Saint Lucy. We were able to attend church and watch confrence there at the ward where Morgan and Kim will be moving. Confrence was amazing and so inspiring. We drove around for a little while looking at houses and then drove back to Orlando and had a wonderful meal and visit with Kim's sister Sara and brother in law. They were so nice to invite us to a lovely Easter dinner. What a special family Kim has! We left for Salt Lake bright and early the next day and had a good flight home until we hit some turbulance that sent Bryson into a tailspin throwing up twice at the back of the plane. (Never a dull moment!) We did have an amazing time and we are so excited for Kim and Morgan and their family to move there. They stayed the rest of that week looking for houses and did find one they are planning to buy. I will let them tell you about that. We love you all! We hope you had a wonderful Easter where ever you were. I wonder how Easter would be in Jordan? Let us know James and Shaylyn. Well, love to you all and blessing on you. Love, Mom

The Wolf and the Seven Kids

On January 29, Angela and I had the opportunity to play in an original opera titled "The Wolf and the Seven Kids" (even though there were actually 9 little ones in the cast). It is an original opera written by no other than Shane Mickelson, an 18 yr old prodigy who is graduating with a Bachelor of music in May! I know what you're all thinking, prodigy children are weird...well, maybe not but it was so fun to work with him because he's a cool kid.

Anyhow...The story (abridged) goes as follows...There's a family of goats (depicted as children in our low budget production) who live in the woods. They run out of bread so the mother leaves to the store. Well, there's a wolf (yours truly) who is interested in these seven (again, nine) small morsels. He stops by the house tries to convince the kids that he's their mother. Low voice=fail. So he goes to the baker to get something sweet to help his voice. Visit #2 to convince. Hairy black paw=fail. Back to the baker again....this time flour for his paw so he can pass as the mom. Visit #3, convinces the kids to let him in and he eats them. VICTORY!!! or so I thought. Mom and Betsy (Child #1 who avoids the mishap) find the wolf sleeping under a tree and cut him open, and as everyone knows, wolves have really slow digestive systems so the kids come right out of the stomach all safe and unharmed. Then they put rocks in the wolf's belly and win the day! Okay, even abridged is long. This picture is with stage manager Max, very cool name wouldn't you say Morgan? Angela's pictures are MIA so we'll keep posting. Stay tuned for the next opera update!
